"Family Life"

Been living here for 10+ years. Centrally located close to amenities (local swimming pool, good schools, child care centres, good local parks, lots of choice for local groceries, cafes and restaurants). It is relatively close to city (30 minutes train commute from Penshurst station), within driving distance to the beaches (20 minutes from Brighton Le Sands), airport (30 minutes), Hurstville Westfield (5 minutes). Clean, quiet, safe and friendly neighbourhood. Away from hussle and bussle and noisy traffic but still within close proximity to all amenities for a comfortable and relaxed lifestyle.

"Decent place to live"

The shopping strip along Penshurst Rd, the last time I visited the suburb, was somewhat bustling, although highly convenient for shopping options. This may have changed ever since, so I am all too sure whether this aspect would be very justified. Penshurst is geographically in close proximity to the Georges River, and just a stone's throw away from Hurstville, but seeming a very disparate world. In Penshurst, there are some quality local schools, and one can always travel to nearby top notch schools in Hurstville via train or bus services, which are generally very reliable. Ideally, you wouldn't want to live on the fringes of Penshurst, such as on King Georges Rd or small streets branching from it (because lack of propinquity to station and amenities), but even these offer a lifestyle like no other with Hurstville Aquatic Centre and Penshurst Park. Really, it depends on which lifestyle you prefer. While restaurants may not exactly be Penshurst's strong point, there are trains to Hurstville to cater for dining options as well as the countless amenities there. Penshurst overall is a tranquil suburb to reside within, as residential streets themselves do not get all too crowded, and much of the traffic will be diverted toward Forest Rd or King Georges Rd.

"Plenty of pluses give Penshurst its appeal"

From the old-world character of McRaes Estate to the new-world charm of South Pour cafe, Penshurst is a blend of many types of housing with a humming Main Street, walking distance to Hurstville and a railway station that takes you to town in twenty minutes. We hadn’t even moved in when the neighbours started to welcome us. A local Christmas street party says it all: friendly, down to earth, trusty and convivial. Close to schools, transport, shops and parks, and a direct drive to Botany Bay or the city, it is an underrated gem full of character and charm.

"Fantastic suburb - great transport, only 17km from Sydney CBD and is home to the desirable MacRae's Estate"

Penshurst is one of Sydney South's desirable suburbs situated in the St George region neighbouring Oatley, Mortdale and Hurstville. The suburb has a great mix of medium and low density properties and is most famously known for its's exclusive MacRae's Estate which is home to affluent, desirable homes.

Penshurst features great cafes and shops, is only a 23 minute train ride to Sydney CBD and is home to Marist College Penshurst (now co-ed) and reputable childcare centres. It is a great suburb for owner occupiers as well as renters and investors although property values here are increasing significantly.

Great for

  • Great rental return
  • MacRae's Estate (affluent desirable area of Penshurst)
  • Only 17km from Sydney CBD
  • Close to Hurstville CBD
  • Good schools, shopping centres & transport
  • Good public transport

"Great suburb - transport, recreation, restaurants, schools and more!"

Penshurst is a peaceful residential area - its best 'pro' is the main strip filled with shops, supermarkets, cafes, RSL, pharmacies, beauty salons, post office, gyms etc. The suburb has many schools, both public and catholic (incl. church), primary and secondary. Hurstville Council Pool and recreational Park is located in the suburb, and it also has its own train station (as well as buses). There is a parking complex near the main strip of shops which is handy. It is only a short 5 minute drive to Roselands Centro, or Hurstville Westfields. The suburb is located only 5-10 minutes from the M5 which can take you to the city within a half hour.

Great for

  • Good public transport
  • Within half hour to airport or city
  • Good range of cafes
  • Affordable entry point for first home buyers
  • Close to Hurstville CBD
  • Good schools, shopping centres & transport

Not great for

  • Mainly apartment/unit suburb

"You will love living here"

Penshurst is a sleepy little suburb located right beside Hurstville CBD and Mortdale.
There is a long shopping strip located in the heart of town and the Penshurst railway station at the end.
Penshurst has a high concentration of residential unit buildings making the area an affordable price to buy, and being so close to the capital of the St George district in Hurstville it is a popular choice for young working professionals.

Only a 10 minute drive will take you to the bayside suburbs and beaches as well as the cafe lifestyle that has proven so popular in recent times.
