Microsoft has finally put an end to a frustrating Windows 11 glitch that has been plaguing users for years! But here's the catch: it's a bug that should have been squashed long ago.
Imagine this: you're ready to call it a day, so you initiate the shutdown process on your computer, only to discover the next morning that it's still running. Why? Because Windows decided to update and restart instead of shutting down. A simple fix, but why did it take so long?
The problem was caused by the "Update and shut down" button not functioning as intended. Instead of shutting down after updating, the PC would restart, much to the frustration of many users. Microsoft's patch notes reveal that they've addressed the underlying issue, ensuring the PC actually powers off after updates.
To resolve this on your PC, you'll need to install the optional update or wait for the broader release. Head to Settings > Windows Update, download and install the Windows 11 25H2 update, then navigate to Settings > Windows Update > Advanced Options > Optional Updates to download and install the KB5067036 update. And voila, no more unexpected PC wake-up calls!

Interestingly, Microsoft hasn't disclosed what caused this bug or how they fixed it. It appears that during the offline servicing phase, Windows failed to execute the shutdown command after a reboot. This fix ensures that the shutdown command is no longer lost in the process.
